MARKET ANALYSIS:
The Nifty, after briefly slipping below 5,800, gained momentum in the last hour of trade and closed near day's high led by gains in Reliance Infrastructure, HCL Tech and ITC taking cues from positive global peers.
The 50-share index ended at 5,842.25, up 71.35 points or 1.24 per cent. It touched a high of 5,848.20 and a low of 5,786.05 in trade today.
The S&P BSE Sensex closed at 19,417.76, up 240 points or 1.25 per cent. It touched a high of 19,445.02 and a low of 19,245.01 in trade today.
BHELBSE -1.63 % (2.40 per cent), Tata SteelBSE -1.73 % (1.71 per cent), Sesa Goa (1.53 per cent) Cipla (0.79 per cent) and Axis BankBSE -0.62 % (0.78 per cent) were among top losers.
The market breadth was positive on the NSE with 734 gainers against 553 losers.
The foreign institutional investors sold shares worth Rs 705.06 crore while domestic institutional investors were net buyers worth Rs 252.88 crore on Wednesday as per the provisional data from the National Stock Exchange.
